MISC: Poe enjoys chromesthesia, a partiularly useful form of synesthesia that links sound to color. The music in Dyed Emotions song "Green" is one example of the utilization of specific sounds, notes, and key to the colors Poe "saw" in the song as it was being formed. Poe is single and searching for a girl to satisfy his need for words.
POE Bio: I didn’t really focus on music as a child. I heard my parent’s old records (Beatles, The Who, some Broadway musicals, the Beach Boys), but was mainly focused on being a cartoonist and chasing girls. While chasing one girl, I joined a dance group and began touring for performances with the group and fell in love with the stress of being on stage, waking up in unfamiliar cities, wearing black eyeliner, and getting my meals at truck-stops. I also developed a feel for song structure and rhythm through my experiences dancing, and eventually began writing my own songs using an old reel-to-reel tape recorder, some RadioShack mixers, and a mono cassette player. I spent my money on Yamaha keyboards, electric guitars and effects pedals I bought from pawn shops, and eventually purchased a new Korg X1 with insurance money after an automobile crash. Initially, my music was me singing sad and strange lyrics over sampled noises arranged into rhythmic patterns and accompanied with single-string guitar lines or cheap synthesizer run through a delay pedal. I was surprised when a friend from school handed me a cassette tape of Depeche Mode’s “Some Great Reward” and I discovered I wasn’t being as unique as I’d thought. In the early 1990s I joined a local band I was a fan of, and got my start performing in clubs and hearing my music on the radio. I relocated to New England and performed with an established goth band as bassist before hearing Dyed Emotions was forming in Seattle.
